What Is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision. It is your public declaration that you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ — that you have died to your old self and risen to a new life in Him.

Just as Jesus was buried and raised from the dead, going under the water and coming back up is a picture of that same story — your old life buried and your new life in Christ celebrated.

"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead... we too may live a new life." — Romans 6:4

You don't need to be perfect. You just need to have said yes to Jesus. If you have, baptism is your next step.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable, dark-colored clothing you don't mind getting wet. You'll change into a provided robe if needed.

Go Under the Water

A pastor will pray with you and guide you into the water. You'll go under once and come back up, it takes just a few seconds.

Not at all. Baptism is not a reward for being a good Christian, it is a response to grace. If you have put your faith in Jesus, you are ready. You don't need to have everything figured out. Come as you are.

At DOXA Sanctuary, we practice believer's baptism, baptism by full immersion as a personal, conscious decision to follow Jesus. If you made that personal decision and want to declare it publicly, we encourage you to be baptized as a believer, regardless of what happened in infancy.

There is no minimum age requirement, but we do ask that the person being baptized understands what they are doing and has made a personal decision to follow Jesus. For younger children, we encourage a conversation with one of our pastors first.

Baptisms are held periodically throughout the year, typically during Sunday services. Once you fill out the form, our team will reach out to let you know the next available date and walk you through what to expect.
